Each system is uniquely handmade and decorated in Australia. The Beechmountain Pottery workshop is located in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Queensland. In the early 90's we started making and selling the Water Filtration Systems you see here. These proved to be so effective and popular we decided to put our family name on them, 'Durand Water Filters'. 

Gravity filtration system - Durand Water Filters are gravity fed and do not require any electricity or plumbing, and are NOT a "fixed installation", so they are easy to move and clean. 

Complete with World Class Leading Filters - The Doulton Filters are made in England and will filter absolute to 0.9 microns.  The PF-4 elements are made in the U.S.A. and will remove no less than 95% of fluoride for the lifetime of the filter. Independent test results show removal of up to 98-99%. These are the filters we believe are most effective for removing the greatest amount of sodium fluoride that is added to some town water supplies. 

Made with Lead Free, Non-Toxic Glazes - Our stoneware systems are fired to 1280 degrees centigrade, making them 'vitrified' to last a lifetime. Stoneware will not deteriorate over time, unlike lower fired ceramics or terracotta. Stoneware does not leach any impurities and will keep your water cool naturally.

How it works: Simply add water to the filter container, which sits inside the main storage container. Under the force of gravity the water first passes through the micro porous ceramic walls of the filter. The inside of the walls of the Doulton filter are impregnated with silver. The silver acts as a natural biocide to keep the water inside your filter, and also your stored water, pure. Then the water passes through the activated carbon filled core of the filter. From there it passes through the PF-4 fluoride reduction element, dripping into the bottom storage chamber. 

Replacement: The Doulton ceramic filter needs to be replaced every 2000 Litres of water filtered, approximately 12 months when using 5-6 Litres per day. Each Berkey PF-4 Fluoride Element will last 1000 Litres. This system comes with a set of 2 x PF-4's, lasting approximatey 12 months. 

Please Note: The use of adding the second stage of filtration with the Berkey PF-4 elements will reduce the filtration rate by 30% compared to using a single ceramic filter. These filters are efficient because of their slow filtering, giving the water large contact time with the media. When filling the top chamber at least twice a day this system will optimally produce 6-8 litres of clean drinking water per day. If you have do require a higher demand for water, such as larger families or workplaces, a Stainless Steel System, or one of our Deluxe Stoneware Systems which hold 2 Doulton filters and 2 Berkey PF-4's would be more appropriate. Also our stoneware systems are heavy and may be difficult for elderly or those incapable of heavy lifting, if this affects you, our Stainless Steel Systems would be a better option.

Contain inert high-grade activated alumina, an efficient way for reducing fluoride from drinking water.This element works in conjunction with a Doulton filter, and will reduce unwanted impurities by "adsorption".

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

*Fluoride : Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm (11 lpm) per cubic foot of media. Results of  of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction).

Please note: In Australia, sodium fluoride is added to town water at approximately 1ppm, this is an amount much less than what the filters are tested and guaranteed at. It can also be assumed that optimum conditions include using this filter in a gravity water system, whereby the water is not being forced through the filter at a higher flow rate, allowing more contact time with the media. Independent test results performed within Australia demonstrate these filters to be up to 98-99% effective at reducing the fluoride levels in town water.

*Arsenic: This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations.

*Lead: Tests have shown that when 7,500 litres of influent water at a concentration of lead of 150-200 ppb pass through 200 grams of media at a flow rate of 1gp , the lead level was reduced to less than 1ppb (99% reduction).

*MTBE (Methyl-terteiary-butyl-ether): Berkey PF-4™ elements are manufactured to exceed ANSI/NSF standard 53 which requires that MTBE be reduced by at least two thirds from an influent rate (water going out) of less than 5ppb (>95% reduction*) *Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of total organic carbons and volatile organic compounds may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements.
